The design of the Intercontinental Guangzhou is a sea of maritime references from the floor up, with veined marble in shades of black and white mimicking the motion of waves. A historical trading port, the prosperous Guangzhou was, and still is, a centre of commerce. Ships laden with commodities sailed through the Pearl River Delta — and this link to travel helms the theme of the hotel located in the Haizhu district of Guangzhou in Guangdong. Anchored in the lobby are boulder-like timber-framed pods, a three-storey feature wall of wooden slats reminiscent of sea vessels, and an installation depicting the Pearl River Delta coastline behind the reception counter.
