Listen to Why Christian Thinks Lighting Is Like Music, a Mood-Changer
Brisbane-born Christian Hill’s natural inclination towards interior design began at a very young age. He used to sketch bedrooms, swimming pools and outdoor spaces and design layouts of his dream home. His keen interest led him to study the subject at Queensland University of Technology, but it was only after graduating that he realised that perfecting the craft would be a never-ending journey.
“My first project was a five-star hotel in India. It was sink or swim, and it took me a long time to swim.”
In the last 20 years, Christian has been honing his design eye and prides being extremely technical and detail-orientated as his greatest strengths. He even remembers details, proportions and dimensions of a project that was completed two years ago.
“You have to go deep into it. Otherwise, it chases you and slaps you back at the end.”
While he constantly analyses the built environment that he lives in, in his professional projects, Christian seeks to imbue the most banal spaces with elegance and an air of distinction. And that soigné approach comes from having lived in many cities such as London, Dubai and Singapore, and immersing himself in various cultures.
