Our thought process on how we design and carve spaces unique to each place
KICK-OFF
Every project begins with a healthy and robust discussion with the operator and owner to understand their vision, identity, DNA and preferences.
RESEARCH and IDEATION
A key focus for us is to create a distinct sense of place by understanding the culture, history and character of its surroundings and inhabitants. We find that a one- or two-day research immersion trip is beneficial for formulating ideas.
CREATIVE SPACE PLANNING
Characterising different zones and their relationship with one other is done in tandem with the creative process, taking into account the structure, size and orientation with the aim of maximising comfort and interaction.
DEVELOPING A FEEL and MOOD
The external informs the internal; architecture plays a major part in helping us determine our design, particularly the volume of space.
SKETCHING
Putting pen to paper enables us to visualise and crystallise our desired outcomes. We can then proceed with multiple refinements till no detail is overlooked.
3D RENDERINGS
Clients understand us better through our visual interpretations. Collectively, the exchange of feedback smoothens the design phases and flow.
FINISHES AND MATERIALS
Oftentimes, the selection of textures, colours and patterns comes down to intuition, experience and taste. The opportunity of working in different countries allows us to explore and reinterpret traditional art and textiles to enhance a sense of place. A characteristic of our work lies in the proportion and balance of mixing luxurious materials with those that add soul and sentiment to the space.
A GROWTH MINDSET
We never settle and question everything. While we strive for “perfection,” it is hard to achieve universal design. But that back and forth sharpens us; we are changed by the end and have covered new ground. In our downtime, we educate ourselves on what our competitors are doing, so that we can give our projects a unique selling position.
