HL's Asia Pacific Hotel Design Summit in KL
23 August 2019, The 2019 Asia Pacific Design Summit organized by Asia-Pacific Hotel Design Association (APHDA) was held on the 23rd August at the Pavilion Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. HL was invited to be one of the keynote speakers for the summit to talk about his design inspirations, past works and experiences to young budding designers from S.E.A. The summit sponsored by Gani Marble Tile had 300 over attendees, with people from Malaysia's top real esate developers, Malaysia & China Government organizations and international hotel management groups.
The summit aims at promoting industry design innovation and regional cultural integration, to help the hotel design industry development and promote common goals of man and nature. Through the exchanges, the designers' innnovative throught process were greatly stimulated.
HL shared a presentation titled: A Storyteller - Journey of designing a hotel - a total of 4 projects which includes recently completed JW Marriott Qufu, Jumeirah Nanjing, Grand Hyatt Xi'an and still in completion project, Four Seasons Sanya. He briefly went thorough the differences in the 4 projects - how the design inspiration of each hotel sparked him to create a story throughout the space, hence the titled presentation "A Storyteller".
Particularly JW Marriott Qufu, the hotel being next to Confucius temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site, the two-storey hotel stands as an emblem of the ancient city. Encompassing the traits of Confucianusm, the meditative transquility and humility mood that sets the tone and design for the hotel. HL discussed the three remaining projects within the 1 hour session and was lauded for his outstanding achievement and great reputation amongst the design industry.
An appreciation dinner was held later that night to thank all keynote speakers and the china elite designers.
